Background Noise Blamed for Airline Food Blandness
October 15th, 2010 - 1:47 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonOct 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to researchers, the noise in the background while you are eating effect both the intensity of the food’s flavor and well as how crunchy it seems to be. Tests were conducted to determine the saltiness, sweetness, and crunchiness of foods, along with their overall flavor, as white noise played in the background.
The results, which were posted in the Food Quality and Preference journal were said to have shown that the white noise reduced how sweet, or salty a food was, and increased the perceived crunchiness. It is said to explain why airline food is so bland tasting.
The findings also suggested that they liked the food more when they liked what they were listening to.
