Australian Cyclone Yasi Downgrades To Category 1 Storm, Expected To Bring Flood In Queensland

Tully, Australia, Feb 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After massive flood which made millions of people homeless in Australia, the citizens were bracing up for one of the fiercest cyclone Yasi on Wednesday. The Category 5 cyclone downgraded to Category 1 storm after creating havoc in many cities of Australia and it is expected that Australia storm will bring heavy flood in Queensland on Thursday. The residents of Queensland have been warned that the danger of Tropical Cyclone has not passed yet and the storm would also affect the people adversely.
The Weather Service officials reported that the storm will cause major threat to the life and property of the people. The meteorologists predicted that the storm is expected to bring gusty winds and heavy rain to the interiors of Australia. On Wednesday midnight, the Category 5 Yasi hit the coast of Queensland and then left more than 170,00 homes without electricity. The Emergency Services Minster of Australia, Neil Roberts told the media outlets that some areas of the country would remain without any electricity for weeks. Neil Roberts said that though the Cyclone has left many people homeless but no injuries have been reported yet.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh told a reputed media outlet that several thousands of people would temporarily remain homeless because of the destruction. However, she also added that local governments and Red Cross Australia officials are trying their best to rescue the affected victims. Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology reported that Cyclone Yasi is moving towards west-southwest and the speed of the wind can reach up to 77 miles per hour. Jennifer Delgado, the Meteorologist of a reputed network predicted that the rain would continue till Friday.
