Sydney, Nov 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Aborigines are set to be recognized in the Australian constitution, the government has said. The government released a statement on Monday to reveal this.

The statement read as “The Australian Constitution is the foundation document of our system of government, but it fails to recognize the special place of our first Australians”. However the new plan is way off. The government will set up a panel to draft the new part of the constitution that will bring the recognition that the aborigines need. After the amendment of the constitution to reflect the recognition of the aborigines, Australians will then be allowed to vote on the new constitution. The panel will be made up of all the stakeholders and discussions on the issue will commence next year.”

The Australian government has previously apologized to the Aborigines for the mistreatments that were meted out to them. The government officials also apologized and said that they are sorry for the pain, suffering and hurt, which the stolen generations, their descendants and for their families suffered. It seems like a heartfelt apology for sure.
