Australia floods are of ‘biblical proportions’
January 3rd, 2011 - 8:56 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattSydney, Jan 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Australia has experienced massive flooding recently but weathermen are still not convinced that it is over.
Meteorologists reports that the flooding in Queensland is still not over because the weather does not give that indication.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts that, “Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones.”
The massive flood has isolated about 75,000 people and the scale of the floods has not been witnessed in the country before. The rushing waters have covered an area the size of Germany and France put together. The flood has directly affected the livelihood of some 200,000 people and due to its huge nature it has been dubbed the flood with “Biblical proportions.” Several people have been evacuated from their homes as the floods submerge several homes in Queensland.
Rails, roads and air links have all been submerged in the water making transportation nearly impossible for those in the isolated places.
A 41-year-old woman has been confirmed dead after her car was swept away by the floods. That is the only confirmed death associated with the flood. Several people however remain unaccounted for.
