PARIS (BNO NEWS) — At least 21 people were injured when a Vietnam Airlines plane on its way to Paris encountered strong turbulence, the airline said Wednesday.

Nine people - six passengers and three flight attendants - were hospitalized in Paris after its arrival at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, but five of them have already been released.

Around two and a half hours after its departure from Hanoi’s Noi Bai airport Tuesday night, the twin-engine Boeing 777 was strongly rattled by turbulence with 222 people on board, including 15 crew.

According to an airline spokesperson, some of the passengers ignored indications by the crew to put on their seat belts, however, the injuries were only minor and none had to be transported back to Vietnam.

Ambulances were awaiting the aircraft’s landing at the airport.

The aircraft involved in the incident will be checked before its return to Hanoi, but it reportedly had no damage.
