June 14, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The number of Hispanics in the state of Arizona is decreasing sharply, well ahead of the new law that is supposed to be effective from the month of July, this year.
The law was formulated, with the immigration problems in mind. It would require all Hispanics to carry valid documents of immigration, once it is enforced. This is an effort to check illegal immigration into the United States of America and will give the police absolute authority to question a person who looks suspicious.
The law has not been welcomed by all, though. In fact, it has led to a huge hue and cry as many believe that the law will actually help in the profiling of races.
Although there is a lack of actual statistics pertaining to the Hispanics leaving the state, schools, in the area, have begun to feel the effects. One school in particular has reported that it has lost almost 100 students, most of them, Hispanic. The parents are scared of the adverse effects that the new immigration laws.
The Education Board of Arizona actually hopes to get the actual number of Hispanics leaving school and the state, in the month of October. This is the month when the schools of the state are required to report the number of enrollments to the concerned authorities.
However, Tuscon City seems to be unaware of this particular trend as it has not really noticed any appreciable shift in the Hispanic population of the region.
The state of Arizona is also reported to have made every provision for the employers who had hired illegal Hispanic immigrants.
