Arizona man pleads guilty for robbing bank with fake bomb

PHOENIX, ARIZONA (BNO NEWS) – An Arizona man pleaded guilty for robbing a bank with a fake bomb, prosecutors said Thursday.

Donald Ray Ludington, 48, of Gilbert, Arizona walked into a bank in October 2009 with a backpack, set it down at his feet, and gave the teller a long note that read “I have a bomb at my feet” demanding “20’s, 50’s, and 100’s.” After the teller gave him the money, Ludington ran away.

Local authorities received an anonymous tip naming Ludington as the bank robber, which led authorities to conducting surveillance on him. He was spotted outside several banks in the East Valley. Ludington was then photographed by law enforcement, and was identified as the bank robber by bank employees.

Ludington was arrested, and he later admitted to using a fake bomb to rob the bank in Gilbert.

If convicted of armed bank robbery, Ludingtion will be facing a prison term of up to 25 years, a $250,000 fine, or both. He is sentence is scheduled for June 7, 2010.
