Oct 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ardipithecus ramidus is the name of a species on which scientists have been working for over a decade and a half. Now it has been revealed that this team of expert scientists and anthropologists have found several skeletal remains in course of their scientific investigations across the deserts of Ethiopia.
These remains have been put together and it has been named “Ardi“. According to the reports “Ardi” was a female and she walked straight unlike apes or chimpanzees and experts are claiming that she existed on earth almost 4.4 million years back. This discovery bears enormous significance interms of evolution of human beings and related fields of study. Earlier to this it was “Lucy,” another fossil was considered to be a major discovery. “Lucy” was discovered long back in the year 1974 and according to scientists “Lucy” roamed the planet around 3 million years back. Therefore it is evident that “Lucy” existed almost one million years later than “Ardi”. This is a crucial point as it signifies that even 4.4. million years back “Ardi” or the species ardipithecus ramidus had the ability to stand and walk straight.
After minute study of the fossil it is being claimed that “Ardi” could climb trees quite easily. This is not a new research as the team of more than 45 scientists have been on the job for over a long period of time. The study also claims that “Ardi” ate different types of tree leaves as well as fruits. Reportedly, a total of 125 skeletal pieces had to be arranged almost like a jigsaw to give shape to “Ardi”.
