The head of the archeological team, Niels Bleicher estimated that the door could have been made in 3036 BC.
The door which was found in a great shape is one of the oldest doors to have been found in Europe.
The 5ft tall and almost 3 inches wide door was discovered during an excavation exercise for the construction of an underground car park meant for the Opera House in Zurich.
The site where the gate was found is believed to have been the location where Neolithic villages existed. It is believed at least five of those villages existed at the place during those years.
The door which was in “fantastically preserved” shape still had its hinges on when it was found. It is made of some durable wood and the archeologists believe that it was part of a wooden stilt house that was designed to keep winds that were blown from the Zurich Lake away.
Archeologists plan to put the door on exhibition once it is finally out of the ground. It will be soaked in a special solution to prevent it from rotting.
