CA, Oct. 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 42 year old global sales director of United Airlines, Anthony Toth spent not only 20 years but also hard earned $50,000 to make an exact replica of a first class cabin of Pan Am, and that too in his own garage- in the Redondo Beach condo that he lives in. The model built by him replicates the Pan Am World Airways 747, which was used in 1970s and the 1980s, complete with red and blue colored recliners, overhead luggage cabins, and voila!! even a red carpeted staircase. He also provides salt covered almonds in Pan Am wrappers and glasses that have the airline’s logo on them, and headphones which play original recordings of the Pan Am audios.
When interviewed, Toth, who wants his creation someday to be featured in a museum, said that a Pan Am cabin interested him like no other airline could, because the brand itself was very powerful and had an “uncompromised standard of service”. He was a regular flier on the airlines, to meet his relatives who lived in Rome and Budapest.
Toth brought the Pan Am World Airways in the limelight again, which went bankrupt in the year 1991 after one of its aircraft was attacked by terrorists in Scotland (in Lockerbie), resulting in the death of all the 270 people on-board. It took quite a lot of planning to get the project under way, with Toth, saving the Pan Am trash and taking the pictures when he was in-flight and also recording the audio. His hobby is not new-found though. He had built a cabin interior, measuring around 20 foot in the basement of his parent’s place at the age of 12.
