angeloBrookhaven, June 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) June 6 might be just another Sunday for many of us, but for the Veterans of the Second World War it is one of the most horrifying experiences that always comes back to haunt them on this very day.

History recalls this day as “D Day” which witnessed the Normandy invasion way back in the year of 1944 that sealed the fate of Nazi Germans in the Second World War.

Veteran Seaman Angelo Marsella (85) and Army Sgt. Cuesta McConnell Jr. (86) were among many others who formed the allied troops of America that put an end to the supremacy of the Nazi Germans and liberated the captives from the concentration camps.

Angelo Marsella recalls how he failed to complete his graduation as he was enlisted under the Army way back in the year of 1943. Time might have made the strong man grow old and weak but his memory is still fresh with the horrifying environs of “Operation Overlord” which was led by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Angelo Marsella recalls how he was waiting abroad on a ship in the Dartmouth harbor back in England just a few miles off the shores of English Channel. He was waiting for his chance to hit the soil of Normandy and fee his land from the shackles of Germans.

He says that the operation was supposed to be carried out on June 5 but it was called off and rescheduled on the following day due to a heavy storm. The French Government went ahead to honor Angelo Marsella for his sheer courage and determination with which he fought all odds and the enemy but never took a back step.

The veteran Seaman was awarded with the prestigious Chevalier Legion of Honor medal at the French Embassy back at Washington.
