July 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a recent development a team of researchers have come across a hitherto unknown tomb of a Mayan monarch in a forest in Guatemala. The tomb of the emperor is filled with children’s bones, ceramics and carvings. The discovery is expected to unravel truth about the extinct civilization that has allured the historians for ages. As a matter of fact, the researchers had found the tomb of the Mayan King as early as May but the new has come out now. They found the tomb in Guatemala’s Petan region which is covered by forests. They are of the opinion that the tomb was made during the 300 600AD.
The Mayan tomb is almost 4 feet wide and ten feet long. Despite the ravages of time the wood carvings and ceramics n the tomb are in incredibly good shape. The research team started looking for some artifacts when they stumbled upon a number of bowls buried under earth which contained human body part remnants. They dug in the place and found the tomb which made them stunned. The chamber was extremely well sealed, so much so that in 1600 years no water or air could find way inside.
The Mayan civilization is considered one of the most advanced and important human civilizations of the ancient times. The Mayans believed in human sacrifice and their tombs contain human bones and body parts. Te king who was buried in this tomb has been found in a dancer’s costume. This is a rarity. The team is yet to complete the excavation and they expect more such discoveries.
