Afghan Time coverNew York, Aug 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 18 year old Afghan girl whose face was disfigured during the Afghan war has arrived in the United States to have her face reconstructed. The girl has become the face of the almost a decade old war against the Taliban and the Al-Qaeda.

Doctors in the United States say they will try to reconstruct the face of Bibi Aisha. Aisha’s face was disfigured by her in laws after she tried to flee their abuse. The Taliban says they condone what was done to Aisha.

Aisha’s image was placed at the front cover of the Times Magazine. The publishing of the image has drawn both criticism and praise from the American people. Those who praise the image say that it shows the future of Afghans and the Afghan women, if the United States goes ahead with its proposed withdrawal from the country but critics say the image is just being used to get public support for the Afghan war. Support for the US’s war in Afghanistan has hit an all time low since the war started in 2001.

Though the magazine’s publication is generating a lot of controversies in the United States, in a secret location at Kabul, Aisha is not even aware of the magazine that published her image. According to the magazine, Aisha agreed to take the picture to expose the Taliban’s brutality in the country.
