Sep 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) As thousands of Muslims all over the world march in protest of the actions of one small Florida church, which has only 50 members, Americans everywhere are speaking out, not against those Muslims, but in support of them, saying that burning the Quran is “ludicrous.”

Pastor Terry Jones, of the Florida-based ‘Dove World Outreach Center’ in Gainesville, Florida has decided to burn copies of the Quran in a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America by a radical group of Muslims.

Despite warnings from top United States and NATO commander General David Petraeus, and General William Caldwell that this could be dangerous for both American citizens and troops, the pastor has stated that he does not believe in the danger, and will go on with the ceremony, claiming that it is “the direction God wants us to go.” But many Americans feel that one day soon, God just may get tired of people claiming to speak for Him to push their own agendas.

In an effort to let the thousands of Muslims who are protesting this action see that the voices of one tiny “radical” church is not the voice of America as a whole, citizens as well as those in office are standing together against the burning of the Muslim holy book.

Richard L Eubank, a retired Marine, and the national commander of the 2.1 million members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) stated, “No one outside the United States will recognize or even care that burning a Quran was the act of a single or small group of individuals…”

“America is not at war with Islam,” he went on to say, “America is at war, however, against a small number of religious extremists who hide behind women and children and kill indiscriminately without remorse. We must not allow an equally small number of religious extremists in America to widen the war by burning the Quran … or Torah or Bible.

America is far better than that.,” according to ‘CNN’.

In an article by ‘The Associated Press’, both top national security advisers on President Obama’s Cabinet, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates stated that the plan was “ill advised” and Clinton added, “It is regrettable that a pastor in Gainesville, Florida, with a church of no more than 50 people can make this outrageous and distrustful, disgraceful plan and get the world’s attention, but that’s the world we live in right now. It is unfortunate, it is not who we are.”

Even Glenn Beck stepped out of vacation time to voice his feelings on the subject, stating, “Burning the Koran is like burning the flag or the Bible. You can do it, but whose heart will you change by doing it? You will only harden the hearts of those who could be moved. None of those who are thinking about killing us will be affected, but our good Muslim friends and neighbors will be saddened. It makes the battle that they face inside their own communities even harder.”

Along with the many “official” voices of America, thousands of citizens gathered in large numbers to express their disgust at the radical Florida church behind the whole idea. Everyone from religious leaders, and politicians, to construction workers and writers are voicing their opinions loudly, hoping to show that the small church does not speak for all Americans, and urging the church to cease with the planned activities.

But Pastor Terry Jones is apparently not concerned with the opinions of those who feel that the Quran burning is “precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems — not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community.”

Jones responded that it would be “tragical” if anyone died because of the churches actions, but added, “But at the same time, we do not feel responsible for that,” according to ‘ABC’.

“Religious freedom”, and “freedom of speech and expression” in the United States does not allow the government to step in and stop the church from burning any items, since the burning of a book is not against any laws. Inciting a riot, causing death by irresponsibility, and such ARE crimes in America, however, a fact which Pastor Jones should perhaps consider carefully.

Rene de Leeuw is probably a Neville Chamberlain fan who would have joined in the cheering after England and France gave in at Munich — after all, how can one be against “Peace in our time.”
