Washington, Jan 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The new year brings in new hopes and new aspirations for most of the Americans, a recent poll reveals. With the global economic meltdown taking a major toll over United States, majority of Americans are hopeful that 2010 would turn out to be a good year, although they feel chances of improvement of the financial situation in the country seems unlikely.
A recent poll has brought to light that around 82 percent Americans believe that the new year would bring various positive developments for their families. At the same time, contrary to this result, it has been revealed that about two-thirds feel that the financial condition of their families would remain the same or it might just change for the worse. However, nearly 72 percent of Americans feel that the new year would usher in positive attributes for the country.
At the same time, majority of Americans have stated that they consider 2009 to be a downer year. Supposedly, around three fourths of the total number of Americans who took part in the poll felt that the past year was a highly forgettable year for them mainly owing to unemployment, extensive home foreclosures and the economy grappling to come to terms with the financial meltdown. Around forty-two percent considered 2009 to be a ‘very bad’ year.
Amidst the financial crisis, the results of the poll this time seem to have taken a worse turn compared to the results of the last poll which was held in the year 2006. While giving their views about the fight against terror, 31 percent Americans believed that the Afghanistan would witness positive developments in 2010, however 67 percent felt that the scenario would remain the same or might turn worse.
