American Teens Encounter Sexual Harassment On Job

American teens are preparing themselves to do summer jobs in America’s swanky malls, upscale restaurants and resorts. However, governmental bureaucrats and supporters of teen wellbeing have stated that the teens must also be aware that sexual harassment is widespread at places of work. These promoters of teenage welfare have declared that the parents must make their teenage children aware of this grim reality.

Mary O’Neill occupies the post of regional legal representative for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for the Phoenix district with jurisdiction over zones such as Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming.

Mary has mentioned that sexual pestering continues to be a pandemic in countless headquarters of work such as hotels, resorts and malls. However, what is worrisome is that many impressionable teenage girls and boys have never complained to the police personnel about sexual harassment. Many of these teenagers are just too undeveloped mentally or unaware of their constitutional rights. Some teenagers, who are aware of the menace of sexual stalking, refuse to issue a remonstration to the police since they do not want to jeopardize their employment.

Experts have declared that many teenagers do not go to the police to launch a complaint about sexual harassment since they are deeply embarrassed about it. Others do not possess knowledge about the fact that the American constitution explicitly prohibits such seedy conduct at the workplaces. The authorized EEOC statistics on teen sexual harassment charges are only about 107 as of May 18.

Mary has divulged that these statistics are not a genuine reflection of the menace of teen sexual harassment in America. The actual figures are much higher. Teens, unlike adults, are less likely to divulge such cases of sexual harassment. Many of them deem that they have to endure sleaziness as it is a part of their evolution in the workplace.

Last March, Burger King consented to shell out a whopping $85,000 to resolve a teen sexual harassment lawsuit with the EEOC. In this case, the stalking consisted of incessant requests for sexual ties, unconcealed sexual advances and unsolicited touching. The teenager, who was the plaintiff, mentioned that she had complained to her assistant managers about this despicable and troublesome behavior. However, they took no action to bring this illegitimate demeanor to a halt.

In November 2009, Ruby Tuesday accepted the shelling out of a massive $225,000 to finish a lawsuit with the EEOC. This lawsuit revolved around a general manager, who victimized the female staff, as well as the teens, by uttering bawdy sexual offers and sexually unequivocal and graphic observations.
