American soldier killed in helicopter crash in Iraq
September 20th, 2009 - 6:12 pm ICT by BNO NewsJOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq (BNO NEWS) – One American soldier was killed and several others were injured when their helicopter went down at a U.S. base in Iraq on Saturday evening, the U.S. military said on Sunday.
Twelve people were also injured when the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed at Joint Base Balad, about 40 miles north of Baghdad. The conditions of those injured were not immediately released, and the identity of the casualties are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“The cause of the incident is unknown and is under investigation,” a military spokesperson said in a statement.
