Cairo, June 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Virginia born American Yahya Wehelie was stooped by FBI from boarding a flight back to New York. Reportedly, the man’s name was registered under the no-fly list.
As a result Yahya Wehelie was forced to stay back in Egypt as the cops ran a check on his background, suspecting him to be linked with terrorists.
Yahya Wehelie left for Yemen along with his younger brother since their mother wanted them to learn Arabic. It was in Yemen where he came across a woman from Somali and they both got married soon. He had plans to come back to his country and finish his education and find a job.
It was in Cairo where both Yahya Wehelie and his brother were detained by the authorities. His younger brother was also put behind bars for three days where he was chained to the wall. After they were released from the police custody, it was due to a FBI interjection that Yahya Wehelie’s passport was canceled and he was stranded at Cairo. Left with no other alternatives, the man was forced to stay back at a motel and survive on fast food.
Yahya Wehelie told the media that after his repetitive pleading a FBI agent has asked him to travel back to America by sea. He calls himself to be “an innocent American in exile” who wants to go back to his country by any means.
The incident have moved the American-Islamic Relations Council who have strongly criticized the attitude of FBI. Nihad Awad of the American-Islamic Relations Council told the media that the council is deeply concerned about such issues where innocent American Muslims are suspected as terrorists which bodes ill and odd for the entire community of the American Muslims.
