NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) – The American Jewish Committee (AJC) on Monday urged all members of the Organization of American States (OAS) to condemn Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez due to his recent remarks on Israel.

“Israel finances the Venezuelan opposition, the counter-revolution. There are groups, even Israeli terrorists, the Mossad, that are after me, trying to kill me,” Chavez said on Venezuelan national television on Friday.

Chavez spoke after the confrontation between the Israeli Navy and a flotilla of humanitarian aid ships, which left nine pro-Palestinian activists dead. Chavez accused Israel of committing a massacre against a group of people that were taking humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The President of Venezuela frequently demonizes Israel, even by comparing Israel to Nazi Germany. One year ago, Venezuela expelled Israel’s ambassador, severing diplomatic relations in the process.

AJC accused Chavez of continuously demonizing Israel’s actions and efforts. Furthermore, the Jewish organization said that Chavez has developed close ties with Iran, a main state sponsor of Hamas and other Middle East organizations that oppose efforts to achieve Israel-Palestine peace.
