American citizen among 9 dead in Israeli raid of aid flotilla
June 4th, 2010 - 12:25 am ICT by BNO NewsJERUSALEM (BNO NEWS) – An American citizen of Turkish origin was among the nine dead as a result of the Israeli attacks of pro-Palestinian aid flotilla, the Washington Post informed on Thursday.
The Turkish aid ship was trying to reach the Gaza Strip, which is under control of Hamas, when the Israeli Navy tried to stop and as result nine people were killed. The nine bodies were flown from Israel to Turkey as well as hundreds of activists, released on Wednesday.
These events have caused growing tension between Israel and Turkey. The international community has criticized Israel’s actions harshly including its decision to continue maintaining a blockade of Gaza.
On the other hand, Israel accused the Turkish activists of being part of a radical Islamic movement mainly due to the video where the Israeli Navy is being attacked with pipes by the activists.
