Back in 1996, Texas, a tragic story of 9-year-old girl Amber Hagerman. She was kidnapped while riding her bicycle and murdered. Her dead body was found four days later after abduction.
The tragedy of the girl led to “Amber Alert system” which is a program created by law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies and the wireless industry. It was named for the little girl as well as the initials of “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response.
Aim at galvanize the entire community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the child.
AMBER Alerts are distributed via commercial radio stations, satellite radio, television stations and cable TV by the Emergency Alert System (EAS) as well as via e-mail, electronic traffic-condition signs, Walgreens Drug Store electronic readerboard road signs and wireless device SMS text messages.
