Amanda Knox’s parents face slander charges

nox Perugia, July 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It won’t be surprising for Amanda Knox’s parents to hate the Italian justice system as they are back in an Italian court 7 months, after their daughter was found guilty and convicted for the murder of Meredith Kercher.

Curt Knox and Edda Mellas went to court in the Italian city of Perugia to defend themselves against charges of slander for public statements they made regarding how their daughter was treated by Italian police during her trial. The statements were made to a British newspaper according to prosecutors.

It ought to be recalled that the 22-year-old American was sentenced by an Italian court for 26 years for murdering Meredith Kercher, who was a 21 year old British student.

She said in a media statement during her trial that she was innocent and had been abused and beaten by police officers to confess being present at the scene where Kercher was murdered. Amanda Knox was in court on June 1 for additional slander charges and could have up to 6 years added to her 26-year sentence. Even if her murder sentence is reversed pending her appeal, she could still be in jail for the slander charges.

Amanda’s parents are set to go to court on October 19 and could be sentenced to 3 years in prison, if they are found guilty.
