Perugia, Oct 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the debate between the prosecution and the defense teams now officially over, the attention of the world is now firmly fixed on the jury and the presiding judge to come out with the verdict in the Amanda Knox murder appeal trial. The 24-year-old American student expects to walk out of jail when the verdict is read.

That belief is shared by many analysts who followed the appeal. The prosecution team seemed helpless as the defense team punched several holes in the DNA evidence that was presented during the first trial. With doubts cast on the validity of the evidence, Knox may be spending her last hours in jail.

Knox was jailed 26 years for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher. Two other male accomplices were also given 25-year jail terms each for their roles in the murder of the 21-year-old.

Knox’s lawyers say she is confident but feels jittery ahead of the verdict. On Monday, Knox is expected to make a statement in court that her lawyers say is meant to assuage any negative image that the jury might hold of her. The jury will be expected to come out with a verdict after the deliberation on Monday.

The jury will have to reach a verdict before they will be allowed to leave the deliberation room at the courthouse.
