Perugia, Sept 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) American student Amanda Knox may be acquitted, some criminal experts predict. On Wednesday, the Italian judge handling the case threw out a petition for a fresh DNA testing. The prosecution team requested for the fresh test. They also requested that the judge should allow them to present new evidence and witnesses, the judge refused both requests on the objection of the defense team.

Doubts have been cast on the DNA evidence which was used to convict Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. A forensic expert argued that the DNA sample which was used to convict the two could not have come from blood. Presenting detailed analysis, Italian forensic expert Carlo Torre argued that the sample was not taken from the blood.

Another witness called by the defense team testified that the DNA sample which was found on Knox could have gotten to her if she washed her clothes with those of the victim.

British student Meredith Kercher was the roommate of Knox and after she was found murdered, Knox and two others were convicted for her murder. Knox was given 26 years while the two other suspects got 25 years each.

The next court hearing is on the 23rd of September. The judge is expected to rule on the case by the 29th of September.
