June 2, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Amanda Knox, the 22 year old murder convict, has to come back to the court on Tuesday as she faces slander charges by the Italian police.
The former University of Washington student from Seattle was convicted of murdering her roommate Miss Kercher, a British student. Amanda Knox was seen last time in public since her conviction on December 5.
Knox accused that the police had hit her during the interrogation in November 2007. In last June, she complained against the Italian police. But, the police has denied any such torture and filed a slander case against her.
This statement of Amanda Knox can cost her six more years in prison and a huge fine. She was seen in a very short hair cut during the preliminary hearing in Perugia courthouse in central Italy.
Knox will get a chance to defend herself in the court over the slander charge on October 1. Her lawyer has filed a formal objection to the judge Claudia Mateini, as she is the one, who confirmed the arrest of Amanda in 2007.
In December, she was taken out of the courtroom in tears as she was found guilty of killing Meredith. Her prison sentence of 26 years started at that time. As per the prosecutors, Miss Kercher’s throat was cut when she declined to participate in a drug-fuelled sex session. Knox is going to appeal against that conviction too.
