amandaNov 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was a rather bittersweet week for the convicted former University of Washington student Amanda Knox as her family has been roasting an 18 pound turkey for the Thanksgiving dinner. The murder convict will get a rare treat at her Italian prison where she has been imprisoned since 2007 for being involved in the murder of Meredith Kercher. The appeals trial for Amanda Knox began this Wednesday and the case has received huge amount of media hype.

Amanda Knox’s family has, however, been supportive of their daughter and fought for her freedom over the years. There was also a strong criticism of the Italian legal system when it was alleged that Amanda Knox was mistreated by the Italian police during the trail. The appeals trial could see her sentence reduced and some predict that she might even be sent home. Her step father Chris Mellas, who is presently in Umbria for the murder conviction appeals trial spoke to the media and talked about his plans for Thanksgiving. He said that not only had he got the bird that he was planning to cook but also arranged a Reynolds oven bag to cook it. He added that he had also got Ocean Spray cranberries for his step daughter.

Back home in Seattle, Edda Mellas, Amanda Knox’s mother and the rest of the family were seen in a rather sullen mood as the father and daughter were both in Italy presently. She explained that there seemed to always be an empty seat during the family dinner and the holidays were always tough. Amanda Knox dinner on Thanksgiving will also include mashed potatoes with gravy and asparagus according to the reports. She will also get to enjoy the company of two close friends who are presently in Italy.
