alizeMar 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new twist has emerged in the case of Alexis Pilkington, the teenager who took her own life on Sunday after malicious messages were posted online soon after her death. According to reports, the 17 year old West Islip soccer player committed suicide after she was at the receiving end of nasty online messages which were posted in a social networking site.

The fact that the vicious and heartless messages continued to pour in the tribute pages even after the young girl’s unfortunate demise, propelled the authorities to consider the possibility of cyberbullies playing a pivotal role in her untimely death. While revealing details about the investigation that has been undertaken by the police authorities, Frank Stallone, the Deputy Chief of Detectives of Suffolk County confirmed that the authorities are investigating the messages that have been posted online. At the same time, Frank Stallone also emphasized that in case the postings are found to be of criminal nature, necessary actions would be taken. However, parents of the deceased teenager do not fully agree with the possibility that cyberbullying might be one of the reasons that might have contributed to their daughter’s death. Paula Pilkington, Alexis Pilkington’s mother has implied that internet could not have played a role in her daughter’s demise and emphasized that she was receiving counseling even before she signed up for the social networking site.

Meanwhile, Alexis Pilkington’s father Tom Pilkington, an NYPD officer, has reiterated that the family would be fully cooperating with the investigators in order to help them reach a conclusion in the case.
