Alabama, Jun 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A biology professor, Amy Bishop has been charged with the shooting and killing of her 18 year old brother, Seth Bishop in 1986.
Amy Bishop has also been charged with recent killings of three of her colleagues. Amy Bishop shot six of her colleagues, and three died as a result.
In the case of her brother’s death, Amy Bishop escaped charges after her mother corroborated her story, that she had accidentally shot her brother when she tried to unload her father’s 12 gauge shot gun. The incident happened in the family’s home in Braintree in Massachusetts.
However investigators say the police unexplainably failed to record a carjacking attempt by Amy Bishop after the shooting. She also refused to drop the gun, until police ordered her several times to drop it. “Had this and other evidence been reported to the District Attorney’s Office at the time, it would obviously have been presented to a Grand Jury and an indictment for intentional homicide, or murder, could have resulted at that time,” Delahunt’s first assistant district attorney, John Kivlan said in a statement released on Wednesday, by Delahunt’s congressional office.
However before Amy Bishop could go and face the trial in Massachusetts, she has to face the murder trial in Alabama. That means Amy Bishop might not be tried for the killing of her brother. The death penalty is still in use in Alabama and if Amy Bishop is found guilty for the killings of her colleagues, then she could be sentenced to death.
