Al-Qaida No. 3 operative Sheikh Mustafa Abu al-Yazid killed
June 2nd, 2010 - 7:54 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattKabul, Jun 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Al-Qaida’s No. 3 and leader of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, Sheikh Mustafa Abu al-Yazid has been killed in an US drone attack. Yazid was at one time the treasurer of Osama bin Laden, and his death has been described by the United States, as a big blow to the terrorist organization.
Yazid is believed to have provided the financing for the September 11 attacks in the United States, and the US have been looking for him since the infamous 9/11 attack on the twin towers. He was on the list of the most wanted men in the United States. He belonged to one of the groups, whose assets were frozen by the United States after the 9/11 attacks.
The 54-year-old Yazid was an Egyptian, and his real name was Sheikh Said al-Masri. Yazid was also a founder member of the terrorist group. It is believed Yazid was killed by an US strike at the tribal areas in Afghanistan. He was killed along with his wife, three of his daughters and a granddaughter as well. Al-Qaida has vowed to avenge his death and said Yazid’s death will put a ‘curse…upon the infidels’.
However officials say without body evidence, it cannot say for sure that Yazid is dead.
