BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – Iraqi Security Forces arrested an al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) leader from eastern Mosul and three suspected criminal associates on Monday, U.S. Forces in Iraq said.

ISF and U.S. advisors searched multiple buildings for the suspected AQI leader in a joint security operation conducted near west Mosul, in northern Iraq. The suspect is believed to have played a key role in acquiring vehicles and weapons used to carry out assassinations in the northern-Iraqi city.

The gathered evidence at the scene was examined and after preliminary questioning, ISF identified and arrested the warranted AQI leader and three suspected criminal associates.

Iraqi and U.S. forces conduct joint operations in accordance with the Security Agreement and in coordination with the Iraqi government to target terrorists seeking to disrupt the security and stability of Iraq.

The security operation conducted was pursuant to a warrant issued by Iraqi judges.
