The accident took place on Monday and though the pilot succumbed to his injuries, a dog that was in the ill-fated aircraft survived miraculously. Later the pilot of the plane was identified as William E.C. Kennedy III. The 68-year-old Vietnam veteran used to work in the Air Force and had retirement some years back.

The plane crashed on Monday near a tree farm shortly after taking off. The man was accompanied on the plane by Charlie, his beloved dog. The eyewitnesses have revealed that after taking off, the plane crashed near the tree farm and turned into a fireball. No one expected that the canine companion of William E.C. Kennedy III will be alive after the fatal crash. However, the lucky dog survived and ran from the burning debris at the site. He was found later and surprisingly almost without any injuries. He only suffered minor cuts and burns. The early investigation has revealed that the aircraft was homemade. Detective Jim Strovink who is also the spokesperson for Clackamas County Sheriff said that after the plane lost control and hit a tree, it burst into flames. It crashed at a place adjacent to Lenhart Airpark. The family of the deceased man will be informed, said the Sheriff’s office.

Following the accident, the scared dog took shelter near a grade school and the principal alerted the authorities about him. Officials have revealed the dog fled from the scene of the accident and took refuge near the school.
