Afghan National Army graduates 400 recruits
June 5th, 2010 - 2:37 am ICT by BNO NewsKABUL (BNO NEWS) – Four hundred Afghan National Army recruits graduated from the Ghazi Military Training Center (GMTC) in Kabul on Wednesday after completing and eight-week course, a NATO spokesperson said on Friday.
Recruits are trained in close-order drill, weapons handling, and combat soldier skills. They received instruction in communications, first aid, map reading, military operations in urbanized terrain, and responses to improvised explosive devices. They also learned the organization of the Afghan National Army, code of conduct, military traditions, the law of war, and the rules of engagement.
“At the end of the first four weeks the soldiers swore to obey their superiors — I am confident that they will be loyal to their oath,” said Turkish Lt. Col. Fuat Seker, GMTC battalion commander, at the graduation ceremony. “The success you display at the new units you will join will bring us honor.”
Afghan National Army Colonel Muhammed Durani, GMTC training battalion coordinator, wished the graduates success in their new endeavor.
“We swore to serve the country of Afghanistan and protect it - this is not an easy task,” he said. “I wish for you to be loyal to your oath and achieve great success.”
