Aeromexico may suspend its last connecting flight to Phoenix, Arizona
May 6th, 2010 - 1:14 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) — Mexican airline Aeromexico said on Wednesday that it may suspend its last connecting flight to Phoenix, Arizona due to a significant fall in demand after the adoption of a new state immigration law, Mexican media reported.
Before the bill’s signature, Aeromexico canceled two flights, one from Mexico City to Phoenix and one from Hermosillo to Tucson. “It is clear that in recent days there is a very strong influence and our current flights are not at their best occupation levels,” said Jose Luis Barraza, Aeromexico’s chairman of the board of directors.
Without giving details on the fall in demand in that route, Barraza said that if the trend continues, the airliner will cancel the last flight to Phoenix, because it can’t be profitable for the airline.
Aeromexico’s flight that leaves Phoenix bound for Hermosillo has a frequency of five days a week and is operated with an Embraer 145 aircraft with a capacity for 50 passengers.
On April 27, Aeromexico CEO Andres Conesa told a news conference that the anti-immigrant law had significantly affected air traffic between Mexico and the state.
The carrier in recent months has suspended connecting and direct flights to Arizona from Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Mazatlan and Ciudad Obregon.
