TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) – A consumer advisory warning was issued Thursday by Attorney General Bill McCollum warning Floridians of possible census scams.

With the 2010 U.S. Census underway, individuals should be cautious and verify the survey is legitimate if they have any concerns, as con artists will probably be trying to collect personal data or engage in other fraud related to the census.

Citizens should be aware of the following in order to avoid possible scams: the U.S. Census Bureau does not conduct the 2010 Census via the Internet nor will it send emails about participating in the 2010 Census, the bureau will never ask for your full social security number and does not ask for money or donations. In addition, the U.S. Census Bureau will never request PIN codes, passwords, or other similar information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts.
