New York, Mar 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A study has revealed that teenage girls are fascinated by the advertisements for Camel No. 9 cigarettes. The advertisements were splashed in various magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Glamour. The study also reveals that they were a huge hit with teenage girls, who are in the age group of 12 years to 16 years. Around 1000 adolescents were interviewed for the study.

One of the reasons for the popularity of the brand can be because of the fact that they have loads of giveaways such as berry-flavored lip balm, cell phone jewelry, purses and wristbands. These giveaways might have ignited the interest in the teen girls.

However David Howard, who is a spokesman for R.J. Reynolds, who are the makers of Camel, says that the advertisements were targeted at adults, because they were advertised in magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Glamour, which are believed to have at least an 85% readership of over 18 years. This was done because in the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement, the tobacco companies had agreed not to target children. David Howard also said that the teen smoking percentages have witnessed a downfall since the advertisements were introduced.
