Advent Sets In This Sunday

adventNov. 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Festive season in the United States as well as in several Christian countries of the world has started with the celebration of the Thanksgiving Day. Most of the people who relished some delicious turkey preparations on the Thanksgiving Day on Sunday, will observe the first day of Advent. Every year, Advent marks the start of Christmas celebration and people embark on a celebratory festive mood then on.

People in different countries would be seen coming to the churches for joining the special services in the churches that is held on this Sunday. According to the sources, some of the churches also have special service for four weeks of Advent so that they can help people to learn more on Jesus Christ’s birth, that they celebrate on December 25. With the arrival of Advent, the churches are decorated with flowers, candles and lights to mark the Lord’s coming on earth. To celebrate the first day of Advent, many congregation plan to have some cultural events which provides entertainment to people.

The word Advent is taken from the Latin word ‘Adventum’, which means coming and with the first day of Advent people marks the beginning of one more Liturgical Year. It has been indicated by the sources that in the present days, the religious celebration of Advent is not only is important for its religious value but also has gained significance for commercial reasons related to it. People throughout this season remains busy with their holiday shopping and this generates a good income to the retailers throughout the country.
