accidentA fatal accident is reported to have occurred on the 57 Freeway in Fullerton which has resulted in a major choke in the traffic flow. The 57 Freeway in Fullerton had to be shut down in both the directions on Thursday night following the accident.

According to the reports of the California Highway Patrol, at least one person has died when the collision occurred between a big rig (semi-truck) and a passenger automobile.

The accident is said to have occurred at about 7 p.m at the Chapman Avenue exit near Cal State Fullerton. The one person said to be dead in the accident is reportedly the driver of the semi-truck. Four other people were injured in various degrees, from minor to serious and were rushed to a hospital nearby to be treated. No further casualties have been reported by the California High Patrol (CHP) till now.

How the accident seemed to have occurred still remains a puzzle as the CHP also wonder aloud about it. Officer Gabe Montoya of the CHP said, “We have no idea what happened.” “However, what we ended up with was the tractor-trailor fully engulfed [in flames] across the southbound and part of the northbound lanes. The tractor portion of it went through to the northbound HOV lane. And the other vehicle that was involved- we don’t know at this point if it was traveling southbound or northbound.”

The possibility put forth by the CHP is that the truck, laden with frozen meat, had overturned crashing against the freeway rail. However, what is still in mystery is, when was the passenger car hit.
