Tree Older Than DirtDec.28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) California has been known for Hollywood, its coasts and its busty beauties. However, now CA will be known as the state to house the oldest tree (or one of the oldest trees) ever found on Earth. A group of Quercus Palmeri or more commonly known as Palmer’s oak, has been found in the suburbs of Southern CA on top of a hill. This particular ‘grove of trunks’ includes a 13000 year old tree, making it one of the oldest trees to be discovered by mankind. This tree was found almost ten years ago by Michael May (from the University of California) and his team of researchers, during a flora and fauna survey.

The tree is quite old, but on sight it does not appear special since all its stems (70 of them) do not grow taller than a few feet. Even the researchers were fooled and thought that the group of trees was just that- a group of trees. On close research however, they came to the conclusion that the plants were unable to reproduce since none of the usual fertile acorns were found any where near the grove. The conclusion drawn was this. According to scientists, the plants have the ability to clone themselves and this grove was exactly that- a clone. The trees stems were all identical in terms of genes. This phenomenon allows the plant to grow or spread only a little with time. The tree in question is currently 25 yards in length and 8 yards in width.

So, we can easily assume that this particular tree started its life during the ice age i.e it is older than dirt itself.
