A Miami, FL man was sentenced for multi-million dollar health care fraud

MIAMI (BNO NEWS) – A Miami, Florida man was sentenced for a multi-million dollar health care fraud, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Yamill Ramos Perez, 38, of Miami-Dade County, admitted that the two clinics that he owned fraudulently billed Medicare approximately $20,000,000, and received approximately $6,000,000 in deceitful reimbursements.

Ramos Perez owned, through intermediaries, two health care clinics, El Palenque Farmacia Corp. and Meli Pharmacy, both located in Hialeah, Florida, and after they were placed on “pre-payment review” for suspected fraud, Perez Ramos began to harass Medicare fraud investigators and a Medicare executive, threatening to kill and ruin their lives through phone calls, faxes, and almost 400 emails.

On December 4, 2009, Ramos Perez pleaded guilty as he was sentenced Tuesday to 112 months imprisonment for health care fraud charges and 60 months for interstate harassment.

Ramos Perez is to serve his sentences consecutively to each other, followed by a three year term of supervised release; he was also ordered to pay a restitution in the amount of $5,825,702 and ordered forfeiture of the his assets.
