New York, Sep 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) This year’s 9/11 memorial ceremony that took place at New York turned out to be a sombre and nostalgic event. The family members of those who had lost their lives in the tragedy read out the names of the victims. The cold morning reminded the attendees of the fateful day that spelt doom for their near and dear ones who breathed their last on that day. Many of the attendees said that despite the fact that 9 years have passed the loss of their beloved ones have not diminished by any means. The ceremony was attended by some of the political leaders of the USA including Joe Biden, the vice president, Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City and Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor. They also shared the stage with the family members of the victims but did not say much.
However the shadows of the controversy surrounding the proposed Islamic center coming up at ground zero pervaded the ceremony and some people expressed their views on the topic. Some of the attendees came to the ceremony site early in the morning when no one was around. A lot of them expressed their relief at the fact that after delay the memorial tower is coming up at the place.
Reading out the name of the ill fated people who had lost their lives on the day in 2001 took almost three hours. The attendees also upheld silence for some moments to pay tribute to their near and dear ones who had died in the 9/11 tragedy. The event was covered live by the leading media entities.
