truckMay 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 91 Freeway in Los Angles had to be closed won on Friday owing to a major truck explosion that took place in the area on that very day. Needless to say, the closure of the freeway gave rise to a whole lot of problems, especially because Memorial Day falls on this weekend, and the closure disrupted the pans of a million weekenders planning to get a start on their celebrations. The 91 Freeway remained closed down for over eight hours, meaning extended misery for the people availing that way. Thankfully, though, the closure lifted after eight hours, and soon after, normal traffic flow resumed in the region.

The truck explosion was absolutely an accident, the Los Angels police department has reported, and there is no inkling of foul play. According to reports provided by the witnesses, the truck was loaded with gasoline, and naturally went up in flames after it overturned in the freeway. The truck was carrying an estimated 8,800 gallons of gasoline. The truck overturned in chain reaction; another truck collided with a Mitsubishi sedan, and the driver of the tanker, in order to avoid colliding with either, swerved, lost control, and it overturned.

Thankfully, though, no major injuries have been reported. Three people have been taken to the hospital to be treated for minor to moderate injuries. However, the accident could have been a major one, with the involvement of so many vehicles. The tanker struck a Honda, which flipped and hit two other vehicles. In fact, it is quite surprising that the only remarkable effect of the entire incident was only the closure of the 91 Freeway.
