Sep 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Prime Minister David Cameron earns less than 9000 public servants! The findings for BBC1’s Panorama revealed that 9000 public servants income is more than the Prime Minister. In the NHS alone, which is discovered to be the highest paying public sector, 6,500 people were earning more than him. The figure does not include those who work in the public sector corporation that operate on a commercial basis.
Though this seems outrageous at first that the Tax payers income is going in making these public servants rich year after year, while the country head earns less than them is not entirely true. A person in the position of a Prime Minister can amass a lot of wealth if he so desires. Firstly the research did not take into account the pension of the prime minister, his two grace-and- favors homes. Secondly a man of such dignity and position can make a lot of money on leaving office as ex Prime Minister Tony Blair is said to have done.
The research though does point out the disparity in the income groups which cannot be neglected. While a few thousand people are making so much, two third of local government workers are said to be earning less than 21 pounds annually and are facing a three year freeze. BBC director- general Mark Thompson was discovered to be earning 668,000 pounds, the highest as per the research.
The salary does not even include his pension and other benefits. BBC appears to be on the list of High earners with 331 managers earning more than 100,000 pounds. The research has come up at a time when the public sector may face a huge cut in its earnings. The report will definitely affect the leaders to cut on the salary instead of services.
