abFeb 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) From Anne Arundel County, 13 students who had participated in the 17th Maryland State High School Dance showcased at Coppin University in Baltimore, got selected as All-State Dancers. Judi Fey, who happens to be the dance consultants of Anne Arundel County public schools and Suzie Henneman, the dance resource teacher, coordinated this event.

For this event, dance was taught during school time. The schools had to send video clips of two dances for judgment. Judges then chose the dances for the performance. 42 dances were submitted this year, 16 out of which were selected. From Anne Arundel County public schools, 9 students were named All-State dancers. Dancers were chosen by professional dancers as well as college/university dance faculty on the basis of musicality, technique, professionalism, attitude, performance, consistency as well as their potential of contributing something to the dance world. County dancers who were selected include, Chelsea Brown from Broadneck High School, Lianne Clark from Southern High School, Shelby Conrad from Southern High School, Brooke Dempsey from Southern High School, Hannah Engelke from Old Mill High School, Allison Gee from Glen Burnie High School, Emily Hurd from Broadneck High School, Jennifer McAllister from Severna Park High School, Holly Olsen, Broadneck High School.

Apart from being talented dancers, the event also required good attitude and respect for other dancers. Prizes were even given to honor dancers who had the aforementioned qualities. The Showcase Award for Professionalism and Performance for the first time went to Arundel High School. This event was truly honorable for Anne Arundel County. They will surely cherish it for some time.
