The body of an 80 year old woman was found beaten to death inside of the Central United Methodist Church in Wynne, Arkansas. According to CBS in Memphis, Lilian Wilson was beaten to death, most likely with a cross, on Sunday.

According to Cross County Sheriff JR Smith, two ‘persons of interest’ fled the scene after the church’s pastor found the lifeless body on Sunday morning. The search for the perpetrators has gone nationwide, and although the sheriff states that the investigators know who they are looking for, as well as where they are from, no more details were released at the time of the interview.

Central Methodist Church is in a very small community, and is where Mrs Wilson grew up, where she had her 50th anniversary, where she raised her two sons, and where she lived her life of 80 years. Her friend for many years, Linda Peeler said, “To have her life end in a place that she loved so much, it’s just unbelievable. “We’re just in shock, devastated and angry. “We’re angry that someone would do that to someone that helped so many people. And to do it in a church, that’s the hardest.”

The motive for the murder has not yet been released by law enforcement, but the victim’s purse, as well as her car are missing. They are searching for Mrs. Wilson’s grey 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. The tag number is Arkansas 737-NGN. If anyone sees this car they are urged to call the Cross County Sheriff’s Office at 870-238-5700.
