GIBRALTAR (BNO NEWS) – A 72-year-old Gibraltar man will finally retire after winning the jackpot, Mansion Casino said Monday.

A man identified as Albert, who is one month shy of his 73rd birthday, has been working his regular graveyard shift at the local hospital for the last 19 years. He was hoping to retire at the age of 65, but expensive medical bills since his late 50s forced him to use his savings and to continue working well beyond his retirement age.

After filling out countless lottery tickets for years and playing online slots in hope of a happy retirement, Albert finally hit the jackpot last week. A $20 online bet last month turned into $2,000, and just last week, he won a $94,377 jackpot playing slots during his midnight dinner break at the hospital.

“I was just grateful to have a job and be able to still work at my age. I’m not planning anything too extravagant, but I certainly plan to spend more time at home with my dog, Barbie,” he said.
