San Francisco, Dec 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) At least 70 protesters have been arrested after the police raided the camp of the Occupy San Francisco group on early Wednesday. The raid on Wednesday was unannounced as about 100 officers wearing full riot gear stormed the camp. Reporters say there was no confrontation between the police and the protesters during the raid.

There have been speculations of impending police raid for weeks. The surprising nature of the raid seems to have worked because the officers successfully cleared the protest ground at Justin Herman Plaza without any major incident. By daybreak on Wednesday, only few officers were standing at the protest grounds to ensure law and order.

Other officers were also involved in clearing the items left behind by the protesters. The reporters say they were surprised when they awoke in the middle of the night to find the police around them. The officers gave the protesters five minutes to take their stuff and leave the camp. After the expiration of the deadline, the officers arrested about 70 of the protesters at various places.

One of the arrested protesters, 51-year-old Jack Martin tearfully narrated that he was about to leave the camp when the police arrested him. He accused the police of destroying his personal belongings which was contained in his tent. He was taken to the station and cited.

Looking at the police, Martin yelled, “I was trying to get out of your way!”
