Haiti Earthquake pictures London, Jan 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 7-year-old schoolboy Charlie Simpson was very upset when he saw that the earthquake had rocked Haiti, and that there was devastation all over. The images of the earthquake disturbed him, and he wanted to help the earthquake ravaged country, by raising money for their aid and rehabilitation.

He took help from his mother Leonora Simpson, and set up a sponsored bicycle ride around his local park in London. He had hoped to raise around $800 with the 5-mile bike ride, but people were so impressed with his idea and enthusiasm, that he raised close to 50,000 pounds in a single day. His Internet page was besieged with donations.

Britain’s newspaper published his story on the front page, and since then the money is just pouring in. His mother Leonora Simpson is also amazed at the public response.

Meanwhile the Hope for Haiti show also managed to raise $57 million. And now they have come out with a Hope for Haiti album too. The Hope for Haiti Now album includes songs by Madonna, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, and Justin Timberlake amongst others. All the proceeds of the album will be given to Red Cross, United Nations World Food Program, Partners in Health, Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Yele Haiti Foundation, UNICEF and Oxfam America. The Canada version of the show had also managed to raise over $9 million. The $9 million will be given to nine non-profit groups like the Canadian Red Cross Society, Care Canada, Free the Children, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan Canada, Save the Children Canada, UNICEF Canada and World Vision Canada.
