61 years old woman becomes pregnant in Brazil
September 26th, 2011 - 8:43 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattBrasilia, Sept 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Brazilian woman had become pregnant with a donor egg at the age of 61 years. The woman who has long passed her child-bearing age got pregnant for the first time with the help of a donated egg. She has asked for her identity to be kept in the dark.
The father of the child is the 38-year-old husband of the woman. She is expected to give birth to the child this November and her pregnancy has generated a lot of controversy in Brazil.
During an interview with the newspaper O Globo, the woman said that, “I had already gone through menopause … My husband wanted to be a father. I wanted to be a mother too. I am in great health … and I have undergone a very thorough medical clearance,”
The baby the woman is carrying is a daughter and she says she wouldn’t reveal to the child that she was from a donated egg. The issue of late pregnancies in Brazil has raised concern among the country’s health officials who fear that the mothers may be risking their lives.
This month, a 52-year-old woman gave birth to twins and that made her a mother for the first time in her life.
