60-minutes New York City, July 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The earthquake in Haiti may have happened sometime ago, but its effects are still being felt by the residents of the country. The natural disaster affected many residents, especially children below the age of 18. Many of these kids estimated to be around 500,000 are living on the streets, in make shift camps, etc. They face hardships everyday such as hunger, sexual abuse, diseases and even slavery.

Haiti is a country facing poverty and many children are abandoned by their families and they live in over crowded orphanages such as The Good Samaritan Orphanage, which is located just outside Port au Prince, which is the country’s capital.

According to reports by the show “60 minutes”, the already over crowded orphanages have many homeless kids and they are over flooded.

Relief materials such as food and shelter have to be provided to these kids who are on the verge of losing the battle to survive. Rescue workers from Global Orphanage Projects are sharing these emergency supplies.

Many of these street kids have lost contact with their families according to Moise Vaval, a Haitian pastor and country director of Global Orphanage Projects, whose eight-year old son Jean Mark is also missing.
