California, Apr 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) ’60 Minutes’ did a coverage report of the ‘Bay Bridge’ in California, and they said that the future of the Bay Bridge is under a cloud. This is because the US government is racing against time, so that they can make a new bridge before California is struck by another killer earthquake. Leading earthquake experts have revealed that if California is struck by another earthquake, then the Bay Bridge is so fragile, that it wouldn’t be able to survive it. So the government is racing against time, in order to complete a new bridge.

This report by ’60 Minutes’ has rattled the residents of the Bay region no end, as the Bay Bridge is their link from San Francisco to Oakland. This is not the first time that doubts have been raised over the stability of the Bay Bridge. In 1989 there was the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake, and the bridge was severely damaged. Then also the earthquake experts had raised the question of making the bridge earthquake-proof. The report also said that the new bridge would be completed in around 3 years, by 2013. The recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile have worried the Bay area residents and the earthquake experts no end, as they feel that another earthquake in California must also be around the corner.
